A Study On A Masters Degree Of Social Work - 1758 Words

A masters degree in social work contains the ability to open more doors than most people can imagine. Someone who has held different jobs within the profession is Ciara Warden. Although the currently works in the educational setting more than the typically thought-of field setting, Ciara told me about her experiences in each. Throughout the interview, she made it a point to stress how social work comes in many forms and a person does not have to feel stuck working in the same type of position forever. Ciara received her Bachelors Degree in psychology and women’s studies at Kansas State University. She continued her education at the University of Kansas, where she received her MSW with a concentration in adult mental health. All of the social work classes she took were through the Kansas City campus. Her first social work job was working with children and families in the home. Most of the time in that job was spent teaching the kids. After working in that atmosphere for a while , she decided to move on and work with Heartland Family Service. Ciara was the lead therapist on the mental health crisis team for Heartland Family Service. She worked with the police who were called to check on the well being of a person or who arrived in a situation where someone needed mental help. Her job required her to help decide if each person needed hospitalized or if they would be okay on their own, and to make a plan with them.
